SECOND Tiny Trinket Box: Spotted Sandpiper

This listing is for one tiny trinket box with a spotted sandpiper perched right on top, along with some flat stones and a tiny yellow butterfly.

This sweet box was inspired by some tiny sandpipers that were running around on a little island of rocks in the middle of a river nearby my home. I would run or walk by there most mornings in August and they would often be running around with their tiny legs ablur.

It is made of stoneware ceramic, nichrome wire (kiln wire) and glazed with various colours of underglaze as well as coloured and clear glaze. As you can see it is a very delicate item (particularly the bird area) , so it should be treated care!!

Please Note: this item is considered a “second” quality piece because:

-the box itself is not quite flat at the bottom so it can rock back and forth if you push it down on the corners (sometimes this can occur in the glaze firing because the clay "remembers" how it was dried originally in an uneven way, which then reveals itself in the glaze firing)

-the lid also "fits" the box best in a specific orientation, and if flipped the other way, it still fits but overhangs the box slightly, so it looks best how the box is displayed in the photos.

What is a “second” item? An item is considered a “second” quality item if it has some small flaw in its finish, that doesn’t affect its use. It could be a fault in the glaze like pinhole (tiny hole) or rough patch/bubbles in the glaze. It could also be a fault in the actual clay body where there is a hairline crack but it has been glazed over. Usually these flaws are not too noticeable unless you are very closely inspecting the item. These flaws are considered in the pricing of the item and a fair discount is applied to these items!
