bird-model
Bird Model: Green Heron

This listing is for one Green Heron bird model. It is made of stoneware ceramic, nichrome wire (kiln wire) and glazed with various colours of underglaze as well as clear glaze. As you can see it is a very delicate item, so it should be treated care!

I first saw a Green Heron in Long Point Provincial Park. I was just standing around looking at Great Blue Herons and it flew right over my head! After that point I watched approximately 500 Instagram reels about Green Herons and learned how intelligent they are! They are one of a few birds that can use tools, they can use insects like bait in order to catch fish.

Note: my bird models are not necessarily made to a specific scale

You may notice there are 2 little wire dots on the bottom of the base of the bird and that is because the way I glaze fire the birds is by inserting a wire hook into the base (the lump of clay the bird is standing on) and hang it upside down in the kiln (on a rig) so that it keeps the bird nice and straight while firing. Then after firing is complete I cut off that wire loop from the bottom of the bird model!

note: this is a handmade product and like any handmade product small imperfections and variations are a normal part of the process/final product!
